sorry for the late blog.
sorry for the really late blog. I had a busy day and just got home.
So today, we took the first quiz on the united nations then searched up interesting facts and videos of the united nations. We heard from Jan and Jordan and their reading report assignment. After, mrs. loconte had notes on the different international organizations the UN has within it's organization.
Our homework is... finish reading the end of ch. 9 & quiz tomorrow on the peacekeeping section of the chapter.

Serenade Me
Yes,
I FINALLY remembered to blog. It’s been a while. I’ve resorted to setting alarms
on my ipod to remind me, but hey, it works so I’ll go with it. Today’s class
began nervously as we prepared to present our songs. Bianca and I went first
singing as song about the Battle of the Atlantic to Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. Jordan, Jan, and Taylor’s group
presented next with Jordan and Jan rapping a song about the bombing of Pearl
Harbour to the tune of I have no idea. They were complete with body art
including tears, and I quote Jordan, for “the dead homies”. The songs were
great. We still have yet to hear Curtis’ song which is supposedly to Skyfall by Adele. We’re looking forward
to it Curtis! We then reviewed the section on the organs of the UN and the
peacekeeping missions. I did a case study on former Secretary-General Kofi
Annan and presented an example of real politik from who else, but North Korea.
We do not have homework except for those of you who didn’t finish yesterday’s,
you know who you are. Oh, but don’t forget to study for a quiz that we have
tomorrow on the organs of the UN. Taylor also has a case study tomorrow on
refugees. Friday there will be a quiz on the three peacekeeping missions of the
UN that we read about and on Monday there will be one on the remained of the
chapter.

The Camera Stole My Peacekeepers
Well, we got nowhere near as far as I wanted to today, so that means reading homework for you.
Tonight you will read about Peacekeeping Operations and we will focus on The Korean War, The Suez Crisis, and The Congo.
I have not assigned any questions as we will discuss them tomorrow.
To recap today, we spent a little bit of time elaborating on the Organs of the UN but we didn't even get through all of them.
History is a tool used by politicians to justify their intentions. ~Ted Koppel
I also brought in a recent news article of the UN at work (they want to probe the allegations that Crimes Against Humanity have been committed in North Korea).
I again reminded you that you have an assignment due at the end of the year: 5 examples of RealPolitik. I brought in a news article about China's lack of integrity when they operate businesses in Africa.
The big one for tonight is that your songs are due for tomorrow.
Colleen has a Biography on Kofi Annan for tomorrow also.

For homework:
1. Finish reading chapter 7
2. answer questions #7-14 at the end of the chapter
3. Test on Chapter 7 on Thursday

Communism, Wolf-packs and Freedom Fighters
We continued our discussion of WWII today with a focus on The Battle of the Atlantic, The Holocaust and The Resistance. Each student read a section and taught the class, but you are responsible for reading all three sections on your own.
We also began by reviewing early German advances in both France and Britain.
It is my goal to end this chapter tomorrow (a lofty goal, I know) and you will have a project for this chapter given tomorrow.
Due tomorrow: Storyboards.
The following is a quote that I think is good to incorporate as a general rule for life:
“Thou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but, above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.”
― Yehuda Bauer
Have a delightful evening.

And So It Continues
Today we sadly returned back to school
after a lengthy break and jumped right back into the swing of things. Just remember, three months left! We began
with a current events quiz and then listened to Bianca as she presented about
Stalin’s Purges. Next, we reviewed the section about Russia in Chapter 5. We
took our quiz and after continued to review the rest of the chapter which was
about the United States. Tomorrow we will be having a shorter, but very similar
quiz to the one today about the US. And a reminder to me and Taylor that we have
a case study to do tomorrow as well. So for homework, study for the quiz
tomorrow. Mrs. Loconte suggested that it might be a good idea to do the
questions at the end of the chapter. Have a good evening!
